Looking good! What were the numbers on the dyno? Oops, you added them. Good numbers.

Mudbucket,

Do you know what camshaft is in the engine? Gotta be happy with those numbers! It's a crying shame these engines were so hamstrung from the factory!

Having starter problems. The first one I put on was a Summit Racing high torque job, it cranked the motor over good but never sounded right, turned out to have 11 teeth instead of 10. Next was a PMGR starter and it worked good for a week, then it wouldn't crank over on a hot restart, then failure. Now I got a PMGR unit from O'reilly and it's doing the same thing, starts cold but won't start hot.

What kind of compression are you running? And, what ignition system? What initial lead? And how many miles on the engine

I ask because it sounds like you have a lot of compression, lots of initial lead, a very tight engine, and your ignition system doesn't retard the spark while cranking.

Edit: I see that you say you have 9.3:1. Are you sure?

It's a stock recurved dizzy, dura spark II, 14* initial, about 500 miles now, pretty sure on compression, my cousin has been building engines for 30 years, put it together for me and calculated it to be right around 9.3:1

Check to see if your DS-II box has the wire sequence as shown on this thread. It is entirely possible that your box isn't retarding the timing. My Motorcraft box, the one shown in that thread, doesn't and the no-name does.

I read a post from some other guy that went through multiple starters and flexplates until he swaped out blue grommet ign control module for a yellow one, on retards timing on start up, one doesn't. Have you heard this?

Don't know about yellow. But read that thread. Blue grommet modules are supposed to retard the timing, but not all do, by any stretch. One of mine does and one doesn't.

I think you can test it on the truck. As you can see here (Start, Ignition, & Carb Circuits - ???Gary's Garagemahal), it is the red/light blue wire from the stater relay/solenoid that triggers the box to retard. If you start the truck and then pull the wire off the starter relay/solenoid you can turn the key to the Start position w/o engaging the starter. But, that should retard the timing, which will slow the engine. If it doesn't slow the engine then it didn't retard the timing.
