Die test cost $700!!!

So I had a leak, appeared to be around the oil cooler and I just had a new one installed in November, so I authorize them to 'tear it down' to see exactly where the leak is. At the end of the day dude took of a lot of stuff and the dealer wants $764 for the diagnosis - this seems completely ridiculous to me, all I wanted was a diagnosis on where the leak was, they saw 'you gave us authorization to tear it down' I guess our definitions of tearing it down are different. Anyway all they really did was a pressure wash and a dye test - no way this should be a $700 should it?

Did this dealer do the cooler for you? Is it a dealer you are familiar with? Unfortunately they have taken advantage of you, and might get away with it. But, what was their "diagnosis" for $764??

I got some sage advice on this forum when I was chasing an oil leak while under warranty: take it to a different (better) dealer -- I ignored that advice at 1st and after at least 5 attempts at the local dealer, I took my truck to one 30 miles away that does a ton of commercial work. They called me in 2 hours and had found 3 leaks, one of which was the bed plate which they'd need the truck for 3 days to do.

Haven't had a leak since. There are good dealers, and then there are the ones like you have been to and the one closest to me...

Sorry for your pain, but I only have gone to recommended independents since the warranty expired, and nothing but good experiences with them...

I was thinking a oil leak diagnosis was 2 maybe 3 hours labor, not over $700, I will talk to the service manager and see what I can work out. I took the truck to the dealer that had initially done motor work for me and they gave me a different diagnosis from the first guys, fixed it under warranty. First dealer said I had a leak coming from the front of the oil cooler. 2nd dealer said nope, its just the port in the front that they used in the past to hook up some type of guage, it wasnt the oil cooler or the seal on that manifold at all. Anyway, my point is $700 bill and they diagnosed wrong? No way I'm paying that...
