Make sure you keep your old one to compare the new one too. Years ago I had a '61 unibody with a 292 and I had to replace the water pump. Went and got the new one and turned in the other for the core charge. When I finally installed the new one, the pulley didn't line up. The parts store couldn't reference a different one. Lucky for me I had a friend who had access to a lathe and he was able to machine a spacer block so the pulley would line up. (That was 40 yrs ago.)

In 2005 I was in need of a water pump for my 292, I went to my local "Star Auto Parts" store. There was a gentleman working there who refused to look at the computer for replacement parts on older vehicles. he used books! (the first attempt, (based on information I gave him.) produced the wrong water pump. I then brought him the one that was bad, by that afternoon I had the correct one. Perfect fit. It pays to take the old one with you for comparison. Older part's places are best for parts.

I've never understood exactly what the issue is, the vendors are selling water pumps designed for a car as the correct one for our trucks or something?? Or is part of the problem ya hafta rip into it to actually see what ya got? Have a rebuild kit now I'm figuring it will (naturally) be the wrong one. Can I measure the diameter of the output shaft externally?

May I ask where you got it? The more I search, the muddier the waters get. Greene shows the B6C-8501B (a number I also got from another vintage parts dealer) and their salesman pulled it from the box, measured it and it's the 3 7/8" impeller and the 5/8" Shaft.
Any information I can get on a 3/4" shaft size pump or rebuild kit would be greatly appreciated.

The water pump and pulley assemblies are directly interchangeable for and F100. In other words, a car pump and pulley will work in the place of a truck pump and pulley. The only thing to watch out for there is the pulley groove width for the belt - if I'm not mistaken, the earlier ones used a 1/2" belt.
Because of this interchangeability, it is wise to check before you order. If it has a 5/8" shaft, then you have a car pump. If it has a 3/4" shaft, then it is a truck pump.
If you have the correct pump and pulley and the belt still does not line up, then it is possible that the flange that the pulley bolts to is not installed at the correct depth and you can adjust that with a press or puller. Or you can exchange it for one that is setup correctly.
If you end up with a car pump, I would not use a stock car pulley. It is way too big for sufficient low speed cooling. Even with stock engines, it has been a problem. The bolt pattern is very common so loads of pulleys are available that will mount though the offset may not be right. If you get one with a deeper offset, you can shim it for correct alignment.
The 3 7/8" impeller is probably for a 1954 239. The entire pump is smaller on that.
