Replacing the steering wheel

I'm probably gonna have to replace the clock spring on my truck. So since I have to pull the wheel. My original is damaged after 20 yrs of use.
Checked pricing and we'll got sticker shock!!!

Just looking for a cheaper way than what I have found so far. Haven't checked salvage yet.
But locally they have been pricey over the last little bit.
Looking for cheaper options! Any ideas?
Looking for part# FT6TA-3600-AAA.
Any help welcomed!!!
Thanks
Charlie

Air Bag? Cruise Control? If no any aftermarket wheel would work. If cruise you could remove it, move it, or IIRC one of the wheel mfgs (Grant?) makes a kit to adapt factory to their wheel.

No air bag but have cruise so aftermarket outta the picture.most likely.
So any other ideas? Preciate the reply
May try junkyard later today tho!
Just have spent a ton ( little over 3 k) ?putting her back in shape lately so trying to keep cost down if possible!!
Can't really complain about costs tho. Other than reg costs gas tuneups, tires etc never had to spend slot to keep her running in top shape. But ujoints froze up. After 20 yrs of use so I rebuilt the axles and we'll things have kinda snowballed. Ya know if I gotta fix this I might as well fix that I wish this apart to fix that and so on. And thought I was done with things like that for a while but not yet!!!! Soon I hopell

I have no idea of their prices but I saved this link a few years ago: Craft Customs - Leather and Wood Grain Steering Wheels - Wood Dashes

They also repair steering wheels.

Check ebay. I picked up a leather wrapped wheel in very nice shape for my truck last year, it was about $150 shipped to my door.

Nise purchase!!
I've been looking lotsa places and so far no go. But in a few weeks I have to move daughter home from college and there are several salvage yards I can check. Wheel still works so not major need to fix/replace quickly. I will check out those leads.
Thanks
Charlie

I was at the local U-Pull-It looking for a spare tilt column for the F150. Found it an took it home. Wheel was in not as good of shape as I wanted so went back a couple of weeks later. Someone had just RIPPED the dash and column apart on one. When shutting the door I looked down and laying in the dirt was a perfect black leather one! Grabbed it and took it home. I put a wheel-skin on it and have been running it a couple of years now. And after rebuilding the steering column, I had to change it out one evening at the gas station. But still love my pickup!

My stock steering wheel was outdated and faded. Decided to go to wood. Disabled the cruise control. 110 bucks total including installation kit.

Looks nice, but I want the cruise if possible. Other prob I have is the cruise switches are bad and trying to find new ones has become a real issue.
I have a few options to check out but not many hopefully I can find a good set soon!!

You could always mount dash mounted cruise controls.

That is a possibility. I hadn't thought of that but I am trying to keep it as stock as possible.
It may come to something like that, but I'm gonna try to keep it as factory as I can.
Gotta think it thru a little if all my options pan out.
One thought I had is if I can find controls similar but differently shaped and maybe switching the horn pad to fit the controls. Does the same thing just different shape. You get the idea.

Wow, nice score! I was looking for one in to use in my '89 but they are all as bad as the one I have. Looks like your next project is replacing the dash pad. I found a good one at the junkyard. Remove the radio, glove box and about eight (8) nuts and out she comes.

To the OP, I agree with you on keeping the cruise control. I drive a lot on the highway. Keep looking... One will eventually turn up.

The wheel is probably fine, the leather cover is just worn out. I recovered mine several years ago. Still looks and feels new. You will have to stitch it on but it is not hard. Leather cover cost me $30 on line.
