Fender Welting

Guys and girls, men and women, and all in between. I'm looking to,buy some of the above, but being in the UK, I can't lay my hands on any to see if it is what I need before buying.
I want to know if any of the suppliers are better than another. My fear is, the fender welt is a cheap hard plastic affair and not pliant enough to do the job properly without damaging paint. I have been using Mid-Fifty for all my parts so far, and they have been brilliant, and will send them and email next week, but would appreciate any independent input from end users like yourselves.
I went with no friend to a large VW show here, and had a look at their ' wing beading' and it was awful stuff. More like plastic.
Thanks all, have a stunning weekend.

I used the fender welting from Mid Fifty. It is a relatively soft rubberish material. I do not know exactly what it is: real rubber? EPDM? etc. The bead part is hollow. I think that when it's new, it should not scratch any paint. I suspect that it is probably a cheap product which will harden up with age.

Unless you have a museum piece that you are not going to drive, the paint under the welting will be damaged as dirt, etc. get in there when you drive and the fenders move. It is just the way they are designed. All you can do is keep it as clean as possible.

Here is what I found on mine after I took the front fenders off. Obviously a result of extreme neglect by the previous owners but you get the idea.

Hi Normalbloke,
I'm not have found your welt answer..?
I used Dennis Carpenter. More like leather wrapped tubing. No rubber.
Loved the look too.

Gents, thank you for your collective inputs, including the kind offer of sending a sample.
I have a friend locally who has used the vinyl around the bead type, from MidFifty. He has given me a sample and it looks great on his truck, so that is what I'll go with.
Thanks again all!

Used no glue, just let fender secure it.
Had notches at the turns.
Did not paint, left black.
