Transfer case stuck oin neutral? - cant push truck

The 4x4 has not worked on my 2004 4x4 Explorer Sport Trac for several years!
I removed the Transfer Case Shift Motor, took it apart and cleaned it thoroughly and then I re-installed it.

I turned the truck on put it in Neutral and then moved the switch to 4X4 High... for the first time in a long time I could hear the click underneath the dashboard/floorboard like if it was trying to engage... it did it three or four times and then I switched it to 4X4 Low and it engaged! The little light came on. I tried to back out of the garage and I can hear the transmission shift but it did not move!
I put it in Drive and I can hear the transmission shift over but nothing. The engine would rev up but it wouldn't move forward. I tried putting it in park and it sounded like it grinded gears.
I unplugged the battery for 20 minutes and tried all of this again and nothing.
I got underneath and turned on my cell phone camera under the transmission and repeated the same steps above. I could see the shift lever on the side of the transmission from the column move through all positions.
Is my transfer case stuck in Netrual? Did fuses blow? Any advice would help out!

I would assume the lever moves, but not far enough. I would pull the motor off and engage by hand and see if it works.

Yup! That did the trick... THANKS!
Now to figure out... what failed: The Transfer case motor or the module?

Can I plug power to motor and see if it turns? How many volts? Im going to hunt for a wiring diagram.

Same issue

Hey Bio-Vic, Iam experiencing the same issue with my 98 explorer. Twice I was stuck in neutral (while shifter was on D) shifting back to 4x4 auto. Good thing is I killed the switch, start back the engine and it was back to normal.

Just wondering if its a thing to worry about , dont wanna get stuck permanently someday while off roading ..

Cheers
