Non-combatant discussion of fuel economy

After posting many pictures and knowing my own actual fuel mileage not trusting the meters in the truck. There seems to be a group of who just continually insist that the trucks get 14 to 16 MPG, I find this hard to believe when I have never averaged under 18 MPG , of course excluding towing a trailer loaded with ceramic averages 12 - 14. Now a little background on my truck it is a 2016 F350 XLT standard factory tires of 275 18 inch michelin's which I'm sure is adding to the fuel mileage also found out that the truck does not have the 3.31 it has 3.55 which I'm sure will add to the argument that will ensue. In the upstate New York area it seems to be an average consensus of the people at dealerships the trucks are pulling an average 20 miles to the gallon including the salesman who owns one and sold me this one. Now I have leveled the front end off which I do to all my trucks which has not impeded the fuel mileage 2 inch level kit of course when I go to 35 inch tires I'm sure the mileage will go down one would expect that then possibly I will be joining the 14 miles per gallon Club LOL. So we have heard from all the people averaging 14 to 16 I really like to hear from someone else who's averaging higher numbers just trying to figure it out, or is my truck just under horsepower and getting better mileage LOL take care

I average 16-17mpgs with 35s. This is of course with a heavy dose of interstate driving which I do a lot.

Thanks for the quick reply going in the right direction this way just curious do you think there's any way they can test my truck to see if it's underpowered would add to the mileage? I can drive the truck every day and never get under 18 MPG other than with a trailer which is common sense but even with my tools loaded in the back it still pulls 19 to 20 miles to the gallon on the highway dealer claims it's due to my high mileage in such a short time in 3 months at 13000 miles claims I broke the engine in very well regeneration happen about every 800 miles don't know if that's normal either? I also had a post that I believe it's louder then most every other diesel of this generation dealer agrees with me says it happens like that sometimes could that be adding to the fuel mileage just trying to figure out how to post a video of it running short enough to get on the internet, most guys at job site ask if I deleted the emission systems which I have not thanks again

Just have to understand that just because you and all your neighbors get 18-20mpg that doesn't mean everyone else will.

90% of the people here probably deal with more traffic lights, stop and go low speed time, higher speed highway time than you do. Any time I go into town my mpg drops instantly, as does everyone else.

You probably drive 45-60mph and don't have to stop more than twice everywhere you go. There's nothing wrong with your truck.

If I reset my mpg's before every trip(no trailer) I see about 19mpg. Go through a little traffic and it drops quick. Hit a regen, forget about it, it hits bottom. All in all i Think with everything combined 14mpg is my average I f I go a week without resetting. Cant complain about that.

Not sure just WHAT you are asking but I DO have the 3:31's and average about 21 highway/unloaded with me keeping my foot out of it. Loaded and towing a 25 foot Airstream I get 14.5 highway.

Around town I get 16.5 unloaded.

On my Excursion - which preceded the F-250 - I obtained 14 MPG highway/unloaded and about 9-10 mpg towing.

In short, I get better mileage TOWING with my 6.7 than I did with the Excursion unloaded.

If it was only that easy I do do a lot of stop and go driving during the weekend heading to Albany right now average 18 and 20 miles to the gallon if I drive the truck like a fool I can maybe push down into the 16 that's accelerating on every corner and every stop light and blowing rubber, so basically you're telling me everyone that's reporting 14 - 16 is driving like a NASCAR race driver well that makes sense take care

I have a 2015 F250 FX4 with the stock Michelin 18" tires and 3:55 rear gear. I drive mostly highway (52 miles round trip to work) between 60-65 mph and my average mpg is 17.5-18.5. I will see the average go as high as 19 just before a regen then drop to 16 during the regen.

On my trips to CO (4400 miles round trip) pulling my 30' fiftwheel I average just about exactly 10.5 mpg.

1st tank of diesel was 14.90 mpg. On trip last summer 7945,4 miles, 808.179 gals =9.831 mpg. Crossing Montana on a sunny, warm, slightly windy day from Beach, ND to Shelby,Mt avg 7.858 mpg. Never have done better than that 1st tank. Avg on four tanks, with 1644.9 miles using 196.706 gals diesel averaged 8.36 mpg; these were all very hilly, mountain areas, not much flat land driving or just touring around without the trailer. I usually averaged 10.0 with my old 6.0 diesel from central Texas to Alaska and home. Love the pulling, braking on this truck, but my records reflect not as good mpg on similar terrain, speeds, wind, etc. All calculations are based on actual fuel records and mileage; I look at truck calcs. but my main display had 9.6 when I bought it and it says 9.6 now. Current mileage on truck 13179.9. Glad you get the mileage you have been getting. Rarely drive truck for town type drives. Drive it about once a week on 30 -50 mile trips on highways at 60 - 80 mph for exercise. Its really a fun truck to drive.

Granted, I don't have lots of miles on mine yet, but getting 18-19 mpg on highway myself unloaded. I have the 18" wheels with the 275/70x18 which are a bit taller than the 65 series, but not quite as tall as the 20" wheels/tires. 3.55 rear, CCLB. That mileage I'm getting includes a Regen as well. Those are happening every 400-500 miles. Notice that they happen more frequent with Biodiesel vs straight diesel.

If it weren't for the Regens, my truck would have gotten over 20mpg regularly from what I'm seeing.

I honestly never understood the hubbub on mileage sure we all want the best we can get but these are just big heavy trucks made for a utilitarian purpose. Now as a conversational/ argumentative purpose these threads are "informative" I guess.

I'm getting 14.5-15 mpg in mixed driving in the dually and couldn't be happier. If it comes time to worry about the mileage it's time to sell it.

Here's my overall mileage screen shot.

my daily Roundtrip drive, no idling. I don't burn rubber or hot shot it either... no regeneration during this drive either.

Overall average.

No towing with this one, yet...
