I'm not sure, but I think the 3.6 update "broke" my bluetooth audio where it used to show the song title/artist in the LCD display to the right of my speedo.
If you use that, and it works right now, don't update - I don't think anything else spectacular changed when I installed 3.6
Although, I did hear from a guy I work with that he did the 3.8 update in his Focus, and it seemed to respond faster.

This is how bad this thing is!
Coming out of Death Valley today I wasn't sure about one turn and I didn't want to stop so I tried the hands free voice for the nav system again.
Hit the voice bottom
Told it navigation system
Told it destination
Then previous destinations just like I do when using it the manual way
It came up with a bunch of other crap that didn't want.
Told it to go back and it wouldn't
Took my eyes off the road and hit the go back button and it let my find previous destination for the RV park it normally won't let you do anything manually on the nav system when moving.
What a expensive piece of junk but it's powered by Microsoft so that says it all, design something and update it 40 times and it still doesn't work so design something else to take its place.

Yeah, I've gone through pretty much the same thing.
The main flaws in the design are that they were trying to do too much with too little hardware, in my opinion.
If you're at version 3.5, I would update. From what I remember, 3.6 was better at voice recognition then the earlier version.
One warning though, I think it would be best to do a master reset before installing the update. This will lose phone pairing, and any destinations and customizations you had, but I think it's worth it in terms of the upgrade going well the first time

I downloaded Sync 3.8 and installed it today, all I can say is what took so long to get something that works. The speech reconnection is much improved and so is the way you can put a address in the nav system. I won't really use it a lot until August when on the road agian but from the little I played with it it's much improved.

Good to know, Denny
I've since moved on to Sync 3 with my 2016 Taurus, and that system is such an improvement over Sync 2 that I can't imagine going back.
Although, now that you tell me 3.8 is that much better, I wouldn't be afraid of buying a 2015 Sync 2-equipped vehicle for the wife now

Even with Sync 3.0, the voice recognition can get confused when there's too much background noise (or the wife gabbing)
The one thing with the 3.0 system is, they removed some of the niceties. Like saying "shuffle off" - doesn't work anymore when listening to a USB stick. There are a few other things missing as well, can't think of them right now.
