2013 Sync update

Has anyone installed the 3.6 update and if so was it worth it. I have the the 3.5 update now and if it's not going to fix anything I won't waist my time and data.

Is that the newest one out that came out in December I think?

If so, that one has something to do with iPhones and Siri support, but nothing spectacular.

Yes I believe it's the latest one, I'm all Android so unless it can help voice recognition it's of no use to me it would also be nice if they could make it more user friendly.

I don't think it helps at all with that.

From my owner.ford.com account for the 2013 (which I gave back):

What's included in this update?

EA5T-14D544-AD SYNC2 - V3.8

ABOUT THE LATEST UPDATE
The new software update for SYNC® with MyFord Touch® systems includes all the improvements from previous updates, plus additional benefits such as:
Siri® Eyes Free*:
Now iPhone users can use Siri® Eyes Free with SYNC® with MyFord Touch®. With simple voice commands, SYNC® with MyFord Touch® enables you to operate the iPhone and SYNC® together. Siri® Eyes Free can be activated by pressing and holding the voice button for at least 3 seconds.
Secure, simple phone pairing:
Phone pairing is now easier.
Automatic reconnection:
If your phone disconnects, SYNC® with MyFord Touch® will automatically reconnect it.
Easier entry of destinations for China:
Now SYNC® with MyFord Touch® allows for easier entry of destinations.
*Feature requires compatible hardware.

I'm not sure, but I think the 3.6 update "broke" my bluetooth audio where it used to show the song title/artist in the LCD display to the right of my speedo.

If you use that, and it works right now, don't update - I don't think anything else spectacular changed when I installed 3.6

Although, I did hear from a guy I work with that he did the 3.8 update in his Focus, and it seemed to respond faster.

This is how bad this thing is!

Coming out of Death Valley today I wasn't sure about one turn and I didn't want to stop so I tried the hands free voice for the nav system again.
Hit the voice bottom
Told it navigation system
Told it destination
Then previous destinations just like I do when using it the manual way
It came up with a bunch of other crap that didn't want.
Told it to go back and it wouldn't
Took my eyes off the road and hit the go back button and it let my find previous destination for the RV park it normally won't let you do anything manually on the nav system when moving.

What a expensive piece of junk but it's powered by Microsoft so that says it all, design something and update it 40 times and it still doesn't work so design something else to take its place.

Yeah, I've gone through pretty much the same thing.

The main flaws in the design are that they were trying to do too much with too little hardware, in my opinion.

If you're at version 3.5, I would update. From what I remember, 3.6 was better at voice recognition then the earlier version.

One warning though, I think it would be best to do a master reset before installing the update. This will lose phone pairing, and any destinations and customizations you had, but I think it's worth it in terms of the upgrade going well the first time

I will try it after we get back to our home base the end of the month, I don't want to lose the stuff I have on it before then.

It's just so aggravating when you have a $950 option that flat doesn't work like it should.

I was playing with my new phone today and I connected the truck to the hot spot and was wondering if I can download the Sync update directly into the truck from the hot spot.

Nope, only Sync 3 can do that. You have to download the update to a USB stick.

I downloaded Sync 3.8 and installed it today, all I can say is what took so long to get something that works. The speech reconnection is much improved and so is the way you can put a address in the nav system. I won't really use it a lot until August when on the road agian but from the little I played with it it's much improved.

Good to know, Denny

I've since moved on to Sync 3 with my 2016 Taurus, and that system is such an improvement over Sync 2 that I can't imagine going back.

Although, now that you tell me 3.8 is that much better, I wouldn't be afraid of buying a 2015 Sync 2-equipped vehicle for the wife now

Been using the 3.8 update for the last week and the voice recognition works like it should except for this morning when 3 other people in the truck were talking.

I wished they would have changed the format and made it more user friendly but I guess you can't have everything.

Even with Sync 3.0, the voice recognition can get confused when there's too much background noise (or the wife gabbing)

The one thing with the 3.0 system is, they removed some of the niceties. Like saying "shuffle off" - doesn't work anymore when listening to a USB stick. There are a few other things missing as well, can't think of them right now.
