Hit a wild turkey, headlight smashed

Yesterday while driving on an urban freeway, a wild turkey ran out in front of me and met his demise, taking out my right headlight in the process:

I have 2005 F-150 that I bought last December, so it's still pretty new to me. (My previous truck was a 1962 F-100.)

The headlight on this side still works ok, though the clear plastic cover is destroyed. Can the cover be replaced separately, or does the entire unit need to be swapped out?

I'm reasonably confident that the entire assembly will have to be replaced. Judging from the oxidation I can see on the lens I think the front will look odd with one new one and one original. That really sucks. I'm not sure how available these are at salvage yards but a new oem part will be pricey. I also believe if you're caught in the rain the bulb will short out pretty quickly. I'd do a little searching on eBay for some price comparisons. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the reply. I did some searching and wasn't able to find just the lens cover. A used replacement (found via a used part search service, car-part.com) is about $150 for a good one. New from Ford, looks like about $250+

I'll probably get a used one. The left lens is pretty clear, so hopefully I can get a good match. (Never had much success polishing these up.)

I don't have a service manual for this truck. Anybody know if there's a trick/complications to swapping these out?

I just replaced both of mine because the left leaked, the right is all good. I am in Pa. and I will ship it to you for actual cost and a cheap price. Let me know if you want it. Rob

Oh and no trick, remove the pin screw holding the rubber flap in place, 1 top bolt on fender, 2 bolts under the rubber flap. There is a spring steel pressure clip holding it in place, once unbolted it does take a good bit of pull to get it out. I will add some pics below, you can see the clip in the bottom left corner of the second pic.

Here you go!

Pair from 2004 F150 XLT, 4.6L V6, 4x4, Scab. No cracks.

The black sealant on the top of this one needs resealing. I just wanted an excuse to buy new lights lol.

Right Side rear

You can have both if you want, I drilled 2 tiny holes to drain the left one though. Cant be seen with hood down, seal with silicone and silicone the holes and you have a matched pair!

Here you can see the holes I drilled in the left light. Bottom left inside corner if your facing the light.

You know, I've hit the Wild Turkey a few times myself but it never affected the truck.

Be glad all it took out was your headlight. I saw on the news here that one went through the windshield of a delivery box truck.

How do I add to Rob's (RP709 's) Reputation for his generous offer to a fellow FTE member. I click on the Scale at top right and get a popup but no way to input text and submit it. I've used it in the past, but it won't work for Rob.

Guess "MY" reputation went negative or something!

Strange. Worked for me, though.
