Refinishing bullet hole rims

Although my rims don't look horrible, I decided to refinish them due to the clear coat coming off in places. They are also pitting in places. Here is my plan.
1. Use aircraft paint stripped to remove clear coat.
2. Wet sand to remove pitting
3. Polish with mothers aluminum polish.

So far I have stripped the clear coat off of one wheel. It look better already. Now to wet sand and polish.

Before

Applying stripper

Stripped close up

After stripper

After close up

Very good work. Many years ago I used aircraft stripper on motorcycle wheels, painted some parts and polished other parts, then clear coated the whole thing. Looked like a factory job.
I'd highly recommend getting several coats of quality clear on there before they start to tarnish. Hate to see all that effort go to waste!

Try a product called nyalic if you can find it, specially formulated to prevent oxidation on aluminium products

Refinishing bullet hole rims

I just finished mine the other day, I used 1200 wet and dry sand paper, 3M rubbing compound and finished it off with Maguires Cleaner Wax for now. I will decide latter if I want to clear them.
