Cam phaser help

I have a 2007 F-150 4x4 5.4L. I recently had a problem with my engine. It had the knocking noise thats known for the 5.4. My issue is i replaced the engine (it had 275,000 miles and was a work truck before i bought it) As well as all the timing components including the hydraulic tensioners, new phasers, new guides, new solenoid, and a new camshaft positioning sensor and it still isnt fixed. I just would like to know what your opinions are on what else my problem could be.

Get a mechanics stethoscope , fire up the truck and start probing. A long screw driver put to your ear works also-sometimes. Best go the stethoscope route. You should be able to pinpoint where the noise is coming from.

Lisle tools makes them and are relatively cheap-as opposed to guessing and throwing parts at it.

We have scoped it. The phaser is ticking when the engine is in time and I know its in time because ive timed it 3 times. We've replaced everything mechanical that could cause the issue. So i was seeing if there was anyone who knew if there was an electronic problem that could cause the same issue.

Why would the phaser tick? There is no part in it's construction that would produce a tick.
As engine timing is changed, the VCT's open or close changing the volume and pressure of oil supplied to the cam phaser. This moves vanes inside the phaser against spring pressure to advance the cam position. Assuming you are probing with the engine at idle, the cam position (and phaser position) are going to be at, or near, full retard. Oil volume and pressure inside the phaser is going to be minimal since the spring pressure holds the phaser at full retard.
If you are absolutely certain you are hearing ticking from one of the cam phasers, I would suggest you might have a phaser with a broken vane and the ticking you are hearing is the vane rattling around loose inside. Did you use OEM phasers or did you use Dorman phasers? The Dorman's have a remarkably high failure rate.
The VCT solenoids receive an electrical signal that determines the size of the orifice that allows oil into the cam phaser.
