occasional hart to start when hot

I have a 2006 Expy with 107,000 that runs perfect except occasionally it is hard to start when hot. If I tip the throttle in half way it will start. I believe it is a idle air control valve that needs replacement , but not sure. Any advice from others that have had this problem ??

If it is the idle valve, is it located on the rear left of the throttle body ??

Thanks for your time....

There is no idle air control valve in the '06, the last year which had that was '04. The '06 has a "drive-by-wire" system and fully electronic throttle body, so the PCM is the one that manages everything. Do you experience any other symptom, like smell of gas or anything when this happens?

Could also be that you need to clean the throttle body.

It did it again this morning after church. I had to pump the accelerator to get it to start. it definately smelled like gas, maybe flooded, after it started.. It takes cranking on it several times before it starts. If is very intermittent. and only happens after it has been driven and the engine is warm.

You need to determine why it's flooding by checking to see if you're losing spark or if fuel injectors are leaking.

Pumping the accelerator most likely won't do any good, there's no physical connection between the throttle body and the accelerator, the PCM reads the accelerator position and governs the throttle body to achieve a requested torque setting. The PCM likely controls the throttle body while cranking regardless of accelerator input, until the PCM detects a running engine. The only exception is if you apply full accelerator while cranking, in that case the PCM will go into a purge mode, disabling the injectors and ignition in order to clear a flooded engine.
