I would be a nervous wreck driving a 2002 totally unknown to me 1600 miles...Bad things could happen...
I will be the dissenting opinion. I have flown in with one change of clothes and 40#'s of tools to various places. Taken a taxi to an auction house with a stop en route for a battery. I would then start the car, drive to a quick lube place and have necessary fluids replaced (inspect in the parking lot). Then swing by the local chain auto parts store for spare fluids and to return the battery if not really needed. Then drove anywhere from 300 to 900 miles home. Even did it once with 25 year old motorcycle that had not been registered in 12 years until that month...but that was only about 400 miles home and I took two days to do it.
Only once in 5 times did I decide to overnight before heading home because two of the tires were not fit to go past the first tire store.
Winter is ending...even up there. Buy AAA and make it an adventure.
