Fix, replace or cover worn steering wheels?

What do you guys do with the worn out steering wheels on these rigs? Anyone found a good solution? Mine is worn to the point that it's getting loose on the top section.

I just have a cheap leather one for the auto parts store. It makes the wheel grip fairly wide, but it has worked for me.

Others have had success replacing theirs with wood grain wheels from Lincoln Navigators or other similar vehicles.

The same day I picked up my Excursion I put a cover on the wheel.

Same as with all my other vehicles. Never had an issue.

if you are handy these guys make a new leather cover that mimics the factory leather and covers the spokes, pretty sure they are also forum sponsors.

Go to an autobody supply and let them mix you a spray bomb with SEM, great stuff

Navigator wheel is pretty inexpensive if you are patient. There is a place in Texas that will re-cover it for you but it's 250$ and you have to send them your wheel for a week or two. Here is a navigator wheel I bought that I thought was the correct color but I was wrong, intoxicated, or both. I like my new/old tan navigator wheel I ended up with. This is the first one I bought.

Is the 98-02 nav the only years to work?

Did they make them in black?

Don't get the early 98 model, it looks the same but the wiring is different. Unless you already have a wheel with HVAC and audio controls and you're willing to pull out the controls and swap them. Apoc has a good write up on that method. I upgraded from a cruise only wheel to a navigator wheel with all the buttons. Need to change the clock spring too and make one splice but it's relatively simple. There's a write up somewhere on here by SunlineFan that has some very useful info.

I think they made them in black for the Lincoln Blackwood.

Then find a Lincoln Blackwood at the scrap yard, but they only made about three thousand of them so it might be hard. Or try ebay. I don't think it was available in black on any other vehicles.
