Thanks, Brent. That is something like I had in mind. Since I will not be hauling pigs or cattle would I really need the boards across the front? Or are they needed for stability?

Brent, are your 2 x 2's tight against the stake pocket or do they go the whole way to the bottom?

 

abe, I just liked the look with the front boards, plus it ties both sides together for stability. The 2x2's are full depth and bolted through the stake pockets. There in there really tight, hope I don't have to remove them. I seem to do overkill on everything.

 

Also, did you use stainless bolts and hardware?

 

Yes, all stainless hardware. Be sure to use anti seize if you go stainless.

 

Do your 2x2's go to the bottom of the stake pocket or do they wedge tight against the stake pocket?

 

They go to the bottom.

 

Just a heads-up on stainless and anti-seize. The one thing I dislike using more than anything else is anti-seize, it seems to get all over everything. When it comes to stainless fasteners you can use Milk of Magnesia to coat the threads and prevent galling. (cleaner and cheaper) It used to be the only approved anti-seize agent approved by the FAA.

One other thing, the red or white band on brass threads (fittings, etc.) is not sealer but an anti-galling agent. For good sealing use the appropriate sealing agent when assembling - thread tape, brush on sealer, etc.
