2004 F150 Shift Cable Repair Bushing

QUESTION ????? My shift cable at the trans shift arm fell off due to the bushing in the push on cable end broken inside. Dorman makes a repair kit for this problem rather than having to replace the whole cable. QUESTION IS, Dorman parts list for this kit starts at year 2005 and up. Is the end of the shift cable for my 2004 the same as the 2005? It is just a Nylon Bushing that snaps on the shifter arm as they have been for years. Let me know, you can imagine what a pain it is crawling under the truck to put in gear. Thanks, Renzo

Cable repair

Thanks Fly Guy for looking. The one you found is for something totally different than the normal cable used for years. I found the right kit at Oriley's for $14.00 that has 4 pieces in it. Two are the same that fit my 04 model Ford. I assume one is for the top end and the other is for the Trans end which I replaced. The listing in the computer was for 2005 and up which was wrong I could tell when finally getting to look at the kit. It fits earlier as well. The original bushing on the Trans end was completely hardened and broken. Only 47,000 miles. Any way I'm sure others will have this same problem and have to crawl under the truck to put it in gear some time. Everyone just be VERY careful to have the emergency (parking brake) on that works perfectly or a VERY trusted person inside with the foot brake on before going under to place in drive if you are in a situation where you gotta get going or do not want to call a Tow Mater. The DORMAN KIT is #14057.

I suspect 2004 is because the 1997-03 body style was also built in 2004 as well.....

Glad to hear you found it and that it was a cheap fix.

shift cable

Hey Broken Leg. It is the 2004 new model all the way from frame up. Def not anything to do with the last of the 03's. I have heard of what you are thinking though back in 04 when I bought the truck new. Renzo
