Hey fellas....I am looking to swap out the rear end in my F3 and from what I have read I can straight swap out a 57-72 F100...I just came across a cheap 56 rear end....will that swap in just as easy ??

Sure. The thing you'll be missing is the ease of gear choice, since the 57-72 9" rear will accept a different center section with any choice of gear you want. The later F-100's came with much more highway friendly gears than early axles, so you're more likely to find a one-stop-shop. Using the Dana from the '56 loses that ability, and you'll be stuck with whatever you have without a costly gear swap. Typically they came with 3.92-4.11 gears.

The gear ratio that came out of my 56 panel was 3.73 and is just sitting here, don't think I'd ever have a use for it..only 4 hours from you

 

Sounds like I will give that swap a try...gets rid of that 8 bolt rear end like u said ... thanks for the offer on the diff, I will keep it in mind if this one doesn't work out...
