"betty the Beast" 1970 F250 Build thread
So august of last year I purchased a 1907 F250 as a daily driver. The truck looks to have been "daily driver" restored some years ago. After that restoration it must have sat for some time, all the gaskets and rubber are cracked and leaking (some). So the truck really just needs to be re-sealed and driven, however, I am not one to leave well enough alone.
So here goes...
Engine:
It is currently a all stock 390 2v save for some Sanderson mid-length headers (still missing a couple bolts that snapped off, going to fix that when I pull the motor to re-seal).
Plans are to re-seal the engine with some power upgrades. Probably a cam, 4v intake and carb (s?), heads(?). still researching on what kind of rpm and power a stock short block can handle. Id like it to be fun and reliable.
Trans: Stock C6
Looking at just putting new seals and gaskets in. We'll see what kind of the power the engine puts out then go from there.
Rear axle:
Standard open Dana 60 with 4.10s
Going to add a limited slip and a disc break conversion.
Suspension:
I flipped the front hangar, back is too low by about 1" with the flip. The 250 has an extra set of leafs set on top of a spacer. I will put the spacer between the leaf and axle and the ride height should be correct (for now).
I am thinking about lowering the entire thing some more, we will see what the appearance specialist (wife) approves.
Appearance:
Wheels, tires, paint etc...
Time for pics.....

First time I've seen a 1907 F250. Lol
The grille is a 1972, the truck has Ranger xlt emblems in back. Also the tail gate panel is a Ranger XLT.
No side trim like the Ranger XLT.
Still a nice looking truck. Have you decoded the VIN yet? Just asking so you can know for sure weather it's a 70 or 72
The kids will do that, good thing you got a young Marine to help. The build should go smooth with help like that.

HIO silver helped me with the vin last year. It is a 1970, i figure the trim was modified during the last resto.
He is actually a Young Marine Private First Class working on his LC promotion. That is an amazing program.

Thank you for the compliments. He is excited about the truck too.
engine question for the experts; i dont know much about the FE, mostly built small blocks. Im looking to turn it into a performance street engine. Ive looked at the edlebrock performer rpm stuff but spinning that 390 to 6500 seams like it pushes the engine past its comfort zone.anyone have experience with that stuff on an otherwise stock short block? Would it be better to go the 460 conversion route?
as you can tell still lots of planning one this build
thanks!

I never pushed my old 61gt built 390 over 5.200 rpm. as I had to much time & money in it too destroy the block just to win a street race. I did not have enough cash money to start over at the bottom from scratch with not many reusable parts to start over when I was a teenager.
I had seen & heard way to many 401,406 427 Fe's motors with #7 rod or# 8 rod letting go flying through the block. mostly 427.

First, thank you for your service, it is truely appreciated.
Second, he's going to be a natural, hes great at breaking stuf...
as far as when he is 16, hes got to get his own. He knows that and is already saving.

Ive heard some stories of FEs leaving internal part behind when spun too fast. So i think i will probably do the following;
edlebrock performer heads
performer intake
cam, not sure which one, something in between the performer and rpm, comp has a few to choose from
Long tube headers (might even look at fender exits)
Higher compression pistons, still pump gas though
Weather is still pretty cold here so lots of time to decide.
Anybody know off the top of their head what the biggest tire i can fit on the back is?
