Anderson Hitch

When we bought out new 5th wheel the dealer installed an new hitch made by Anderson Hitch. Ive never seen one before but so far I really like it. I cuts down on a lot of the back and forth movement within the hitch itself and help increase the hitch angle and turning radius. Does anyone have one of these and if you do how do you like it?

The block mounts to the king pin then just sets down on the ball. The hitchs locks to the ball using the locking device on the back side of the pin box.

Nobody has said anything negative yet.

With the Anderson hitch, do you have to be pretty dead on when backing up to the pin box? Maybe I am wrong, but it seems like it may be difficult to get the ball on the hitch dead under the box that the ball has to mount to.

I hope this makes sense, if not I will try to word it another way.

That makes perfect sense. Yes you do have to be close to dead center. Just as you would a bumper pull or gooseneck trailer. However, practice makes perfect.

Andersen announced this week that they have a new model coming out that is beefier and has a funnel to help guide the ball onto the kingpin, As I understand it, it should be officially announced next week. I believe it will be called the Ultimate Fifth Wheel Connection 2.

It took me (an OLD fart) no time at all to be able to back the truck under the connection point.... and NO, you do NOT have to be spot on..... really close tho. Nice thing is, unlike a under the tailgate hitch, it is no problem at all to watch out the back window to line it up. All this is predicated that you do not have a depth perception problem!

You know, I had never thought of comparing it to a travel trailer hitch. That is what we have now and we are planning to upgrade to a 5th wheel this fall and I have been looking at the Anderson system, but was skeptical about the hitching process.

I love mine! Much easier to hook-up and boy are they lighter than my old hitch!

What keeps the adapter from spinning on the king pin?

The adapter bolts on pretty tight. I wasn't there when they bolted it on there.

This is a product I would need to see in person and analyze how it is installed and how it works when in motion. Something like this I have to dissect until I feel I have exhausted all avenues of how it works.

Definitely interested though and will check it out the first chance I get.

I know what you mean. I was a little unsure about it at first. I like it so far but I haven't taken it on any long trips yet though.

where do you hook your safety chains? I don't see any in your pictures. That is now a ball hitch and Federal law mandates chains.
