97 F-250 OD light stays on

So this problem has come and gone for a couple of months. Already replaced the shift lever and od button switch, still no change. Been trying to chase wires everything is can see says it's good. I have a tw chip, unplugged it still no change. Can a bad pcm cause this problem to be intermittent for awhile and now be constant? Need your help it driving me crazy. About to send it to a shop and don't want to ( kinda low on funds right now).

It will not go into overdrive, just up to 3rd gear. Haven't noticed any other problems, and my scan gauge doesn't show any codes.

What kind of scan gauge do you have? You need a really good one to read transmission codes on these trucks.

If you're not shifting into OD your trucks most likely in limp mode.

Get the codes read and go from there. Anything else is nothing but a guess.

I have an aeroforce interceptor. Though here's the kicker to all this, most times when the od off light was on, you could push the button and it would go right off. Sometimes it wouldn't cooperate. No matter if the light was on or off the transmission would always shift normally( though it wouldn't go into od if the light was on). Other than not having overdrive because of the light, it has not suffered any other issues or had a changes in drive ability or power. I figure it to be a short but can't find it. Have looked at the wires from the shifter to the pcm, but after that I can't figure out what wires to chase to the transmission.
