What happens when you overfill an AOD

I want to add some "Trans Tune" to my AOD transmission. The directions say not to overfill the transmission. What happens if I add 16 oz to a transmission that is right on the full mark?

It will aerate the oil and cause you much grief. Instead purchase one of those hand pumps and pull 16oz of oil from the dipstick tube prior to adding the new stuff. Personally, I'd drain the transmission and change the filter - but I realize this may exceed the scope of your project plan.

I realize I did this backwards, but I already drained the pan and changed the filter. I didn't know about this flush stuff then or I would have added it first.

When its cold the engine revs up to around 3,000 before it shifts gears. When the truck warms up it shifts better. I was hoping if I could get rid of some varnish and sludge it would work better.

then a little hand pump should do the trick. I bought mine for less than $10 and has two 6' hoses which makes it easy to route the suction down the dipstick hole and the discharge into a bucket.

Okay thanks. I've seen those pumps you're talking about and gotta get me one, but I just warmed up the truck, ran it through all the gears and checked the level again. It's about a pint low, so that problems is solved. Thanks again.

GResiel, I put the Trans Tune in, took it for about a 10 mile drive and the AOD is shifting up through the gears just fine now. The $6.00 for TransTune sure beats the $1588.00 that Mr Transmission wanted to charge me.

I checked the fluid when I got back. Low and behold, now it's overfilled. Got the pump that you talked about from Advanced Auto for $9.98 and it worked really great. Thanks.

Now if I could just get the transmission to downshift out of OD when I stomp on it, I'd be one happy Ford lover. I'm going to let the TransTune work a little more and if it don't fix itself, I'm going to try to adjust the TV cable.

On edit ======================
You remember from Dune that the hero's name was a wierding name or something like that, and it destroyed things just by saying it? Looks like your name is a smiley face name. How wierd is that?
