Suspension and steering upgrades!

With spring coming fast I'm getting ready to take the winter wheels and tires off the truck and go to something a little flashier. At this point I'm thinking of doing a leveling kit. I won't be off-roading or at least very minimally, so for myself full coilovers and external reservoirs will go to waste. I do believe the upgraded UCA's and tie rod kits will be a waste for this truck as well. I'm leaning towards the Bilstein 5100 adjustables for the front and possibly some blocks and the Bilstein 5100's for the rear. The Rancho Quik Lift fronts seem to be a decent choice as well since they come loaded and ready to go. I debated the add-a-leaf in the back but I don't want to stiffen the rear springs up as this generally makes the back bouncy without weight in it.

I do like how the truck rights now on the street, but I wouldn't mind a little more stiffness just to eliminate some of the body roll. I do plan to go to a 33x12.50x20 tire and a 20x9 +0 wheel.

Are there any other upgrades or items that I should look at replacing?

Well, at this point the truck has 80,000 miles on it so it would be a good idea I think to replace the shocks and struts. Also, the Limited shocks and struts are a bit soft for my tastes. It rides nice, but it's also a little bit too soft.

I went with the Rancho quick lift loaded on the front and then put Rancho 9000 series shocks on the rear. I have been happy with them. Rides good but is stiffer and does eliminate body roll and nose diving when braking. Added right at 2 inches of lift on the front.

I do want to eliminate some of that nose dive when braking. I'm just trying to decide if the 2" will be enough in the front to get what I want. It seems most say 2.5" is the max though.

I put 5100 all around with the fronts on 2nd from bottom notch, just wanted level, made the whole difference, 5100's are an excellent choice

At this point I'm leaning towards the Rancho setup. The Limited has a "street tuned" suspension which I'm assuming means it's got a softer front spring and shocks. The rear springs look exactly the same as any other 09-14 F150 I've seen. I wouldn't mind it being a little stiffer as the truck has a lot of front end nose dive plus it would feel more stable under load.

I like the fact the Rancho is a completely new assembly and since my truck has 80,000 miles it would be nice to get a new assembly on the front. I know the Bilsteins are a good choice as well but I'll be setting them at one height and it'll never move again. Most people say the Rancho's get a 2" lift after settling which is probably about what I need. Thinking of putting the 9000 in the back then too. I've heard great things about both though. I just know that I won't be running a spacer. I may end up installing the 3" rear block depending on where the front ends up.

So, the cheapest I've seen the Rancho front and rear setup is for 540 with shipping and they have 120 dollar rebate right now. Has anyone found them cheaper?

Looking at the same upgrade. I think Rock Auto is the cheapest I've seen them so far at about $520 shipped (with some other crap in my cart, maybe shipping would be less). Not sure about the rebate, but think its on the mfg level so should be the same. Worth checking out that site before you pull the trigger.

It does seem like Rancho has a rebate offer each spring, watch for it.

Yea, they have 120 dollar rebate right now for the Rancho QuickLift fronts and the RS9000XL rear shocks when purchased new as a set which is great. Means I'll end up getting the setup for 380 bucks shipped. I'm definitely down for that!

Just another vote for the 5100's. I love the way my truck drives!

Got the Rancho QuickLift and the rear RS9000XL's on last night. Holy cow what a difference. I set them at 5 to try and get a baseline. The truck feels so much more planted now. Eliminated almost all of the noise dive when braking, the body roll during higher speed turns, and it just all around feels better. It firmed the truck up a bit, but definitely to the point I felt it should have been to start with. This may just be because I had the Limited suspension which may be softer than other setups or that it had 80,000 miles on it but I'm so glad I made the change. Looks 100x better without the rake as well. I actually feel like I'm driving a truck again!

Going by your screen name, I'm assuming you did the install yourself?
How did it go?

I just placed my order. Was thinking about doing the rears myself, and seeing if after that I was confident enough to tackle the fronts. I'll need a shop to do the alignment anyway, so that's where I'm on the fence. At one time I did quite a bit of my own work, but its been years since I've done anything more than an oil change.
