Transition from 6637 to new S&B

So I got a big brown cardboard box that says S&B on the side of it.............only thing I can take from this is that it's time to make the jump ; ) any suggestions on other stuff to do while I've got the intake out? I will be changing the washer fluid reservoir out as well since mine hasn't been able to hold fluid for over a year now haha

As for the winshield washer reservoir, sometimes the water line falls off.

I was hoping tha was the issue, but some idiot (me) didn't bother with winter formula washer fluid when it got to -7 or so for 3 straight nights and when I drive the truck and the engine for warm, wouldn't you know it, washer fluid was running EVERYWHERE.......... I thought I broke something important until I got closer and saw the color

The S&B is a nice intake but a complete pain in the **** to deal with for maintenance. I've got a dog in the game having had the stock, AIS, 6637, and now the S&B. The AIS is the best for stock injectors bar none. 6637 is great for a stock turbo. If you venture into a 38R...yowza! That howling beast screams with a 6637 and will have you running to an enclosed intake like the S&B as I did...

Well, as mentioned in another new thread I saw a while ago, the way the 6637 looks under there just disgusts me every time I open my hood lol honestly I think besides adding custom tunes eventually, I've just about reached the end of performance mods on this rig. I considered the ais but I've heard it uses a filter similar to the one installed from the factory in the 6.0 and I HATED the filter in my 6.0. For the first thousand miles or so after replacement it was fine, but shortly after that my mpgs would drop, boost dropped, egts increased, I would pry the filter out and sure enough, the inlet side of the filter would be gunked up. Usually I could blow it out, but sometimes I would have to replace it with ANOTHER $80 element. Alot of people tried to talk me out of the S&B but the trucks I've been around that are equipped with them absolutely love em.

So I finally got the intake on, and my truck runs completely different. Throttle response is 10x better, acceleration is much better, no lugging in the middle of gears, power all the way through gears, it's fun to drive again! I don't know if maybe the old 6637 was dirty? Or if something else was wrong? But it's a night and day difference with the new intake.

The pitch/whine of the 38R and an open element filter was enough to drive me nuts when pulling a heavy load. The stock setup was too quiet and I could barely hear the turbo. The S&B seems to be the happy balance for me.

I ordered straight from them, and my filter housing seemed to be badly warped! Where the clear lid sits, it didn't fit with a crap. Emailed them some pictures, and they sent out all new parts to make it right! Very happy with their customer service!

They were great for me too. They talked me through a laundry list of issuesand questions before I placed my order through a vendor (whose name I will not utter as They are not a sponsor) due to about 15 bucks worth of savings. I intend to get on their site and post a review soon. I had never noticed how loud the 6637 was. The truck had it when I bought it and our last 7.3 was sold years ago so I didn't have much to gauge it against besides my last 6.0 which screamed like a banshee so any 7.3 seemed quiet haha but I do like the subdued turbo noise. And loud is only a pedal press away : )

Huh, I've seen others post the same thing but I don't have an annoying howl.

Maybe my gradual hearing loss is helping there, or maybe I'm just used to it and don't hear it anymore.

I can appreciate looking at the positive side of things!

I even replaced S&B lid with on I cut out of 1/4" Lucite in an effort to further reduce the yowling 38R. It's fairly well controlled now.

I have gone back and forth with the S&B K&N type vs paper. I think I have landed on the oil filter. I can clean it whenever I want and the only place to get the S&B paper filter is S&B... I also run the pre filter to keep the big stuff out of the filter....

Riffraff Diesel has the S&B filters. Every time I swap something out, like the S&B or a fuel filter - Clay gets an order so I can keep one on the shelf.

Keeping one on the shelf would be a good Idea. I would like to be able to just run into the local auto parts store and pick one up. Which is why I decided on the oil version I can clean it whenever I want...
