I had it installed. The guy had to bend the firewall seam a little.

the more I thought about your suggestion today while driving it I think you might be right. The exhaust sound practically goes away when I turn to the left while driving and when I hit cruising speeds the sound goes away. But if I romp on it I get the loud exhaust sound in the cab. I think your right in that the down pipe is coming into contact with the firwall on and off.
