Question about Snap-on Impact Wrench

Just got a great deal on a used Snap-on MG725. Just received it and it looks like its been barely used. Plugged it into compressor and it spins in both directions and sounds strong. Haven't used it on bolts yet. Issue is I gave it a shake and it has a really loud rattle inside. Sounds like a can of spray paint does when you shake it after paint is thoroughly mixed. Quick google search says some impact wrenches need grease when it sounds like this but this is supposed to be a oil sealed model and doesn't have any grease fittings. Please help!

impact wrenches work by spinning a "hammer" on an eccentric around the drive.

you do not grease an air tool, what you do is put a few drops of air tool oil into the air inlet before using it.

With all do respect, some impact guns do in fact require both oil and grease (for bearings) for lubrication. Ingersoll Rand sells kits such as this

to lubricate their impact wrenches. Note that the kit includes both oil and grease. Some guns have holes on the nose of the gun to apply the grease and others actually have Zerk fittings.

The Snap-on MG725 has no such hole and does not require grease as it is lubricated in a self contained oil bath. I also understand that you should not even use normal air oil in it as it can damage the seals and cause failure. This gun uses Redline synthetic oil.

Back to my question, I just want to know if anybody else has this particular gun and does it normally "rattle" when shaken or is this a sign that it needs to be serviced? The rattling seems excessive.

Thanks.

i have never heard of greasing air impacts, but then again all my impact guns (6 of them)are over 30 years old, except for the two snap on cordless units.

No worries. This actually shows how the IR is greased. There's a part in the video where he shakes it and it sounds exactly like my gun, LOL...
