This was a video I took this summer of the car running, it's very tough to hear, but you can hear it at around 2-4 seconds briefly as the camera goes up, briefly at 15-16 seconds, a split second at 21 while the camera moves quick, and at 27-28

Morning on this beautiful Saturday morning.

Kyle, not a clue here. I'm sure one of the gear heads will nail it. A grand isn't bad, but adding up all the other things and the time how does that look? And compared to buying something else what's the best fit for you.

Tom, Little speedster you got there. Hannah seems to have total control of the chair. 300 pounds a lot of weight. Looks like a good fit. Now to get the insurance. Got our fingers crossed for you there.

Mother-in-laws coming in a couple of weeks. Have to get the house in order. Painful for the wife.

Good morning everyone!

I don't know Kyle, it's tough to hear in that video.

We're taking advantage of the nice day and going to the zoo with the kids. Hopefully I have time to pull the bike out of storage today and go for a ride. It's gonna be 65 today!

John, I think it would be worth it, everything else on the car works, there's no rust, if I buy another car, that comes with it's own set of problems. I think if I take my time and do it right, it'll be worth it!

Tom, yeah, it's tough to hear for sure. This is what I've found so far:

Piston definitely collided with the spark plug.

I try not to!

I got the exhaust out of the way and then dropped the oil pan!

And here's what's inside the oil pan, lots of pieces of piston!

The piston failed right at the wrist pin, you can see the whole wrist pin and where the pieces broke off.

The rod has a bit of twist in it. I think I might pop the head off, and put a new piston, rod and bearing in from the top and be able to avoid pulling the motor all together, that would be much easier. Hopefully the cylinder walls didn;t get damaged. For now, I put the pan back on and sometime soon I need to measure the crankshaft and find out if I need an oversized bearing or not.

I'm going to go and post on the escort forum and see if anyone else has experienced this problem.

Tom, I was reading that often times on these older escorts, they drop a valve seat, causing extreme damage to the piston, it usually occurs in cylinder #4, which is the piston that decided to explode in my engine. Kind of makes me wonder seeing as one of the spark plugs was basically crushed, but I don't know if that would be enough to make the bottom grenade like that!

The guys on the escort forum were also saying that these pistons are hypereutectic, and aluminum, and are brittle, and can break under extreme vibration. I was surprised to see cast aluminum pieces in the oil pan. I'll get to taking off the head within the next week and see if it indeed did drop a valve seat or not.

Very interesting Kyle. Curious to see what the head looks like when you get it off.

Good evening everyone!

Had a great weekend.

Yesterday we went to the zoo and found out just how much of a debacle it was to load that thing into the van.

We were almost on the bump stops with just the chair, and firmly on them once the rest of us were loaded up. I can see a hitch carrier and rear airbags working for nice weather, but hardly a long-term fix. Looks like we'll be van shopping next month.

Took Hannah out for a walk since this is the only weekend we're gonna have this thing until she gets her own. Pretty neat, we did about 2.25 miles and she did great! Over 70% battery remaining after that, and it wasn't charged since Friday evening.

Very cool. Glad she is doing well with it. Good luck on the van shopping.

Evening

My modem went out on Sunday. Got a new one today and got the computer running tonight.

Hannah really can handle that chair.

Nice pictures Kyle. I guess we are going to see a rebuild. I like that.
