better towing poower ecoboost or OBS 7.3?

I am confused on the numbers where the new f150 have more power and torque for towing. not weight but towing numbers?? even my 01 5.4 numbers are higher. but the 7.3 will out pull right?

No question it will out tow it. It may have more power stock but if you look at it from the reliability aspect, a 3.5 ecoboost or 5.0 gas will fail at 130k towing 10k all day but a 7.3 will do at least double that while getting better MPG. If maintained properly a 7.3 can tow 10k or more every day and get 400k miles. I have heard that a lot of guys on this forum often exceed the tow rating and have no problem. 7.3s are beasts, no question about it.

That little 3.5 ecoboost aint no joke, ive towed with one and it fels almost as strong as a stock 7.3 SD, I was pulling almost 9k with it too. But as mentioned it probably wont be happy for to long.

Not to mention your gunna get 6 MPG towing any thing with an EcoBoost...

They great motors and dare I say I'll prolly own 1 at some point, but towing with a gas motor is just not something that should be done....

I knew a guy that bought a eco boost to pull his skidloader around. Worked for his own concrete business, so It was hooked up quite a bit. I asked him how he liked it, and he said great.

Few months later, he was back in a super duty. So I'm guessing the Eco boost wasn't liking being hooked to a trailer all the time. For occasional towing, no question, ecoboost is great. Continuous duty towing, nah.

But like these guys are saying, 7.3's will work hard all day, and not bat an eye. My vote is the 7.3.

You already knew what answer you were gonna get when you asked that question on a PSD forum, right? I'm not saying I disagree with the answers given, just that they are probably a forgone conclusion here. If you ask on an EcoBoost forum you will probably get a different answer.

Be interesting to hear more from others like z31 who has towed heavy with both.

LOL, I knew I was going to see pro PS. My mind was clouded with numbers and I was thinking will I get up that hill any faster. What I forgot (due to shock of numbers) was I get 5 mpg pulling my trailer up a incline of any kind. also I think the power band will be different too. Additionally I can do much with a 5.4 engine with out spending lots of money. I can upgrade the PS and keep good mileage. While I know the Eco boost would be a better fit for daily use and my once every other month trailer pull to go camping, I don't want to spend 50k for a truck that will go down in value. The OBS PS are cool and will only go up , At least I think so.

Acceleration is great on the ecoboost enough umph like a stock sd 7.3, surprisingly enough I got 10mpg from Albuquerque to El paso with that load hand calculated of course.

The ecoboost isn't holding up. My brother has had a engine put in his and he isn't the only one with them failing.

the ecoboost is an amazing engine.

for a car. not for a truck. we had one in a 150 for 2 years. pulled a cat 259 skid or a 234 roller with it.
and put 120k miles on it in those two years. when it was traded in, it still ran, but was not going to be for much longer.

This is pretty interesting about the longevity. The only one meant for towing is a diesel hands down. Now I did have a 6.0 Vortec a few years back and I will have to admit they are pretty stout for a gas engine. If I had to go gas again, that would be the route I would take.
