Update on My Undercarriage Clean Up

Thanks to a friend that stopped by today, I got a lot done. We pulled all four wheels and the brake calipers. The brake caliper brackets were blasted and painted. The calipers were scuffed, cleaned and painted in-place. I also finished painting the springs and the ends of the axles.

I still want to redo the undercoating in the rear fender wells, and the new front differential cover but so far I'm very happy with the progress. It's far from perfect, but I'm certainly very happy with the upgrade in the trucks appearance.

Looks awesome man! Wish I had the time to do something like this. I like the drain valve you've got installed as well.

Great job...what are you using? For the black undercoating?

Thanks!

Agsmv1...not sure yet. When it was new, the undercoating got discolored and I touched it up too many times with spray can undercoating. Now it's a mess. I'm hoping some heat will take it off and then I'm thinking to just Put a light coat from a spray can. If heat doesn't work, I may try one of the vibrating multi-tools. Apparently they work well for undercoating removal.

For the paint I used Krylon SuperMaxx. The rear cover was blasted and painted with an aluminum engine paint.

If you are using a spray can of rubberized undercoating those tend to turn grey fairly quick. A coat of paint on top of the undercoat will keep it looking nice for much longer. I'd recommend a satin enamel.

I like to use a metal scrapper to remove undercoat.

Are you washing it to remove road grime on the painted stuff and spraying an engine detailer to bring it back combined with painting where the paint is bad? Looks great!
