Using heat is my last resort. I was worried about melting the seals. I'll let it soak and drink another beer.

I had to remove a press on bearing from inside my baler last year and didn't want to use torches for fear of a fire. I ended up putting the puller on and heating the bearing with a heat gun, it took a while, then hitting the shafts with one of those dust off cans for computers. If you flip the can upside down you get the liquid co2 which cools it down in a hurry. Pope's off easy after that

I'll try that if the overnight soak fails. Thanks for the info.

Hold a 4lb. shop hammer against one side and hit the other side with another one, this'll usually make them pop off. Leave the nut loosely on the shaft in case of a missed swing.

I think most auto parts stores will loan you a puller. You have to put down a deposit equal to the cost of the puller and you get it back when you return the puller. You have to be careful removing a Pitman arm as you can damage the steering box by hammering or too much heat.
