Hello my 2001 f 250 7.3 ran great before the rain storm,i opened the door the next day and all the lights were dim, batteries were run down put on a charger and the started was turning over the engine so i take it something got wet.I let it sit a week to dry, cheched it today and the starter still runs with the key out i checked the F57B-14B192-AA in the fuse box upper left and it was clicking, the truck starts without the F57B-14B192-AA in there but the starter want to engage so i disconnect the solenoid wire to the relay what can cause this thanks
"General Electronic Module"---- The GEM does body related functions like keyless entry, electric windows, auto lamps and locks, stuff like that. On some models it does Electronic Shift on the Fly 4WD functions.
Could be as simple as the start relay on the fender has gone bad. Use a Volt Ohm meter and see if it's getting power to the control wire when it shouldn't be.
Can't say for sure that the GEM actually engages the starter relay. The back of the fuse box could be wet. Relays could be getting energized that aren't supposed to be. Water got in somewhere and something is corroded. Can't hurt to get in there and look.
found a start circuit diagram. The 15amp fuse #20 between the start switch and the clutch jumper for auto tranny models is labeled GEM/clutch pedal position jumper on my fuse panel layout for the 99 model. Make sure your 2001 is the same. Pull that fuse and see if it stops
I had a similar problem except my batteries ran down after a big rain. It was a leaky windshield. Charged the bats, replaced the windshield, waited for everything to dry out. Ran great.
