Timing Cover madness

Right now, I'm in the process of building a fresh 351w for my '86 F-150. The original configuration has a standard rotation cast iron water pump. What I would like to do is go with a reverse rotation pump (for a newer serpentine set-up) . Now the problem is finding a correct timing cover.

I have plenty of covers like the one on the left. What I need, is a cover with the reversed water ports like the one on the right.....BUT with a spot to mount a mechanical fuel pump. Did Ford ever make one of these? I'm having no luck and am just about ready to just stick with the iron standard rotation pump, but thought I'd run it past the brain trust first.

Whats got me lost is on the old '83, I had that exact same set-up with a reverse rotation pump. I just can't for the life of me remember how I did it. I got parts scattered all over from that truck but nothing makes sense as to how it was done....with all factory parts.

I went through all of that a few years back. Use the regular rotation timing cover with the mechanical fuel pump.

Get the water pump for a 95 f150 or similar. The plate on the back of the pump will have circles instead of the tombstone openings like the timing covers.

Do not go by the online photos. Go and look at the pump in the parts store to see the plate.

Bolt it to your cover and proceed with your build.

I have a thread somewhere on this but can not find it on my phone.

What I just told you is the summary of it.

I think I looked up a pump for a '95 and saw it had the round holes...but was unsure of it. Do you think there's any flow reduction by having the round hole vs. the tombstone style? Ever had any cooling problems?

The one I got is for a '90, but can easily swap it out at the parts store.

I got a radiator fan off a '97 F-150 that I want to use (19"-9 blade), so if the coolant flow to the radiator is good, it WILL be cooled.

Just trying to cover all bases before I get the engine in, which should be in a couple of weeks.

A 79 mustang had a 302 with serpentine setup and mechanical pump. The pump went reverse rotation and caused the engine to cavitate.

The fix was the round holes on the waterpump.

I questioned an old friend that has a massive junkyard of just mustangs. He schooled me on the waterpumps.

I just did an image search for a 1995 351 windsor waterpump.

There is a picture of all the different timing covers. Look at the inlet outlet holes and tell me what you see.

I see circles.
