Need new cab mount arms?
#16
I found my cab mounts in my stash. But they are the pressed steel not the cast ones and they are rusty. I guess I never got the cast ones off the big truck. I wanted to but never asked the guy at the junk yard before they closed.
So I will dig into my piggy bank and get a pair from Mid Fifty.

I rebuilt the original cab mounts and reinstalled with new rubber bumpers. The cab now sits about 5/8 - 3/4" above the frame. There's no glass or seat in the cab so it may settle a bit later. Although it looks like the seam of the cab was notched to avoid hitting the frame, it's almost identical on both sides. I think Ford maybe figured it out and started to build it that way.

Rear pad install
So on this topic, I've cleaned up the arms and frame hangars and have the DC pad/bushing and bolt kit. But for the life of me can't get the new pad into the hangar. They seem to be an 1/8th wider than the hangar. Anyone have a trick to get them in (and in the right spot)?

Same thing on my 50
My 50 F1 had the same issue. The old mounts had no rubber left and was actually starting to wear the hole in the mount. I decided it was too late to use them over and I bought the new cast one's. My cab sits about 3/4" off the frame now. I'm sure the old pressed one's are strong enough but nothing is going to help if the bushings are let go too long.

I had heard that 600's and up had cast cab arms. But you would know as you've seen your share of these trucks.

It might "cast" me to the Dark Side!
Hmmm, maybe I'll tell my body man to chop the top and French the headlights...... And tub my new bed. What the heck, I already have the optional dome light and a three speed tranny from a 71.

So F800 has cast arms. Would F700's? And in would, like I said above, F600's? I will have to check my Ford truck dealer fact book.
Thanks!

You could replace them with the adjustable arms.
1948-56 Ford F-100 Cab Mount Arm, Adjustable
That would give you the most flexibility to get everything aligned properly.
I just replaced my bushings and called it good. The cheapskate I am, I just used heater hose as a bushing as well. They fit great. We will see how it works over time.

Good tip on the heater hose. Thanks.
