Ouch, you can buy a remanned one all day for 125-150. Takes 5 minutes to change. Why did they change it?

Because they replaced the upper fuel system, and it would idle, but then stall out. Really wish I was more patient and just did it myself. Live and learn right?

Its what happens when they are literally the only ones in town. Im going to try to knock the price down by saying it took longer than expected and paying with cash... ordering shocks tonight. Then all I have to do is put a new belt and oil change. So ill be in the truck for about 4750. Including purchase price.

Um, shouldn't they have contacted you BEFORE spending that much of your money? If they just shotgunned the IDM replacement, and don't have specific documentation describing how they arrived at a diagnosis of a bad IDM, I would stay far, far away from that shop. It would be worth the $100-ish / year for AAA Plus coverage (worth it anyway), just so you can get the truck towed to a shop in another town.

We have to have a talk!

Heres the thing, I never authorized the IDM to be changed, and they never called me about the IDM until after they did it. Should I just tell them to stiff it and put my old one in and do it myself? Im an AAA member, where can I get those dirt cheap IDMs? The idm wasnt an issue when it went in...
