When I had mine done I ended up having them replace all the bearings as well while in there.

Ended up with the alum 08 cover.

A little to get used to in the snow, especially if going up a hill and auto shifts down a gear you usually end up going a little sideways. You learn to deal with it and it is then fun.

Freeked the wife out the first time that happened to her and I wasn't there with her.

She now drives the Expy.

Price aside, they are actually ideal for those that only need a locker occasionally .they work the same as a open diff until you hit the switch and then they lock.

ARB operates the same as an open diff until you activate it with a in can switch and then it works like a spool by solidly locking both axles together.

Detroit will allow the outside wheel to spin faster then the inside wheel in a turn but neither axle can turn slower then the ring gear.

ARB cons are it is expensive, pros are it is very reliable and predictable traction only when you want it.

Detroit cons are the can cause some quirky handling and are always on. , pros are traction and cost

Up in Northern Canada we get hosed on everything.

Paid about 900 for the true trac, delivered, about 250 for the bearings from ford and I dont recall what I paid the mechanic to install it. Probably 300.

Update: just spoke with original shop and I am going with them for 2100 out the door. While I may have been able to save 300 (200 if it didn't include tax) this shop is highly recommended and I want it done right the first time. They are getting me for about $100 on what I can buy the unit for myself, he went through the breakdown and everything else is in line incl the $80 hr labor. Will include everything except the hub bearings which will be another $70 if they can't be reused. I am going to get the 2008 cover.

I appreciate all the replies, I will post a followup after its done in 2 weeks.
