4R70W behind a 4.9L?

I have an '85 F150 w/ a 300 and NP435, so I normally hang out over in the Bullnose forum but wanted to get some info from you guys also.
I want to swap in an OD automatic tranny and have been looking for a good E4OD, mainly because it was fairly standard behind the 4.9 up 'til 96.
I just found a SBF 4R70W in excellent condition and next to free, but can't find anywhere that it ever offered behind the 4.9. I already have a Bauman controller, a TPS and a VSS so I've got all of the electronics covered, but I need to know what mechanical linkages I may need to find.

Has anyone ever put a 4R70W behind a 300/4.9 ?
What problems did you run into?

Thanks

Of course it will since the windsor family and I6 share the same bell housing bolt pattern.

And the only mechanical parts necessary is the gear shift mechanism and associated parts and an AOD/4R70w flexplate.

There were a very few 4R70Ws with the SBF bolt pattern. The vast majority had the modular engine pattern, which will not work.

5.0 Explorer maybe? Thought those were 4R70W?

The truck that I'm getting it from is a '95 F150 w/ a 5.0 so it shouldn't be a problem on the bolt pattern? 8th position vin code is N, which I'm pretty sure is a 302/5.0

1994 F150s with 5L engines through 1996 came with either a 4R70W or E4OD. We have quite a few folks post in this forum who thought they had an AOD or E4OD and it turns out their truck has a 4R70W transmission.

according to everything i have ever seen the 4R70W was never made with anything but the modular bolt pattern, just like mark said.

even searching the web states the same thing. if it was on a windsor engine, it was not a 4R70W

Trans code U is for the 4R70w, I have personally been involved in countless discussions on this forum regarding it in this series of trucks.

That is the trans that was never used in F series trucks.. it was a small car trans only for a very short period of time.
