Somewhat low oil pressure.

Hi all ! I have a 2001 7.3 Ex has 203k. I hooked a oil pressure gauge to it. Hot engine was 12 psi at idle 36 psi at 3300 rpm and anything over 3300 rpm it would go down to zero. Chiltons say idle 10psi and 3300rpm 40 to 70 psi Oil level was fine. I use Rotella 15 40. My question is for a truck with that many miles is that ok or is there something I need to be checking.

Low pressure oil pump could be worn out. New one is not overly expensive and not too hard to replace. You'll need to rent or borrow a couple of specialty removal install tools for the wear ring.

Lot's of good reading for you here to get started.

Thanks for the info. I heard if the front cover was gouged that could be a problem also. Removing the pump and replacing it with a new one seems not that bad however if my front cover is damaged I do not have time to pull the engine to replace a front cover.

not sure what you mean by front cover unless your talking about the pump itself and it comes with a new cover. someone with more engine experience may jump in here.

I find it pretty hard to believe that there would be a gouge in the front cover, unless it has been off before and someone did it.

That's what I'm hoping. A trusted diesel shop in my area said if the have to replace the front cover it's a 20 hour job.
