Super Duty Question

Thanks for asking, the engineers aren't going to answer speculative questions about parts but the good folks talking Super Duty in these threads can probably help.

I have a 2010 Ford F150 4x4 6.5 foot box 5.4L V8 and I do not know my rearend gear ratio. I am looking to buy a trailer to haul a 1200 pound UTV and a 500 pound atv while having a 400 pound atv in the box. Should and can I buy an aluminum enclosed trailer to haul weighing 3000 pounds or a, I better off buying an aluminum flatbed trailer. I would like the enclosed for storage purposes but when I use it I will be going on long trips through the mountains and I do not want to ruin my transmission. Also live in ND where it is windy. What is your recommendation. Any help would be appreciated.

My question is about the towing limit
2013 F150 FX4 5.0 Scab 6.5ft box with a towing package and 3.55 gears

I don't think it is the Max Tow package but the truck came with the built in brake controller (works great) and both 4 pin 7 pin trailer plugs. I have a 14Klb bumper pull trailer that weighs 1,900lbs empty and a weight distribution hitch. I have easily hauled my 1967 F100 on the trailer and now I am going to add a water tank. That tank weighs 300lbs, holds 1000 gallons (8300lbs), and that brings the trailer up to about 10,500 lbs. No steep inclines and only going about 5 miles empty then 5 miles full.

Is this ok to haul with my F150 or should I use my beat up old 1 ton flat bed truck? I mean, sure I should use the old ranch truck but the F150 drives much better and I think it will haul that weight better.

I have a 2011 super-cab with a 6.5ft bed and a 5.0 engine with a 4x4 drivetrain. I only have a 4-pin connector on the back. What is the max I can put in the bed and what is the max I can tow?

Thanks!

Sorry guys, our engineers will answer questions about current model years per the "Rules of the Road" but the Towing sub-thread has some good conversations for your '11 and '13.

I am in the market for a pickup to tow a 5th wheel total weight of the 5th wheel is 10,000lb will a F150 3.5 ecoboost handle this or would it be wiser to go to an F250 with a 6.7. I am also looking for the best mileage.

Best mileage while towing, diesel will be any gas engine.

Also, for a fifth wheel, you may prefer an 8' box, which limits your options in an F150 (can't pair it with crew cab).

It's my opinion that the F150 EcoBoost puts out sufficient power for that much weight. There are trade-off to the half ton, or the Super duty platform.

How often do you tow?

I will be retiring next spring and my wife and I plan on going out for a month at a time probably 4 or 5 times a year. I plan on a supercab with an 8' box in either a 150 or 250.

Guess this is just a smoke screen...just let the engineers keep focused on the new development problems in front of them.

When I was doing development work for one the big 3 one of the engineers said "You always bring the hardest problems to solve" I said "That's because I solved all of the easiest ones" There are always tons of problems to solve during development.

Adios para esta seccion
