oil in intercooler tubes on a 240k mile engine
one of the kids has 2 05 6.0's.
the "car" has 89k on it, the "work truck" has 240K.
work truck blew an intercooler boot yesterday and when he pulled it apart he saw oil film in the boot and intercooler tubes .
he has only had work truck for about 2 months now, and has not even changed the oil. the original owner said it does not use any oil, only about 1 quart every 3-4k miles.
i told him it is probably normal seepage through the turbo seals, and that my 7.3 does the same thing.
do you guy agree with my assessment of the situation?

Oil in the intercooler tubes is normal and comes from the CCV out of the tube on the driver side valve cover and goes into the air intake just before the turbo. I think your assessment is pretty spot on.
If he blew an intercooler boot, the turbo might have experienced an over boost from sticking vanes in the VGT turbo. Hard to know though, Tom.

One of mine blew off while driving and let me tell you, it scarred the crap out me. Sounded like a shot gun going off in the cab. The power drops to nothing and it blows smoke like old train. It was my fault though. I didn't clean the pipe and boot good enough when I put it back together. Have him clean both surfaces with some sort of degreaser so the boot doesn't pop off like mine. My understanding is that it's pretty common if not cleaned up good.
