To add to iron cobra's reply, check into dieselsites water separator kit. They work!

If you're not going to be pulling heavy trailers, go with the gasser. You will likely be much happier. But if you get the gasser and then decide to start hauling because of your truck, you'll likely be trading vehicles again. Hmmm how would I know that?

If you like to spend money on maintence and IF it goes in the shop and like to pay thousands of dollars then buy a diesel. If you want to save money and get a few less mpg but has a reliable truck that will start up 99.9% of the time get a V-10 or a 6.2L. Either of those gas engines will be more than enough for what you need. Plus gas is cheaper than diesel right now. In my area (Dallas) by 30-50 cents a gallon.

^^^ This. Like I said before, if you're buying USED and want to stay in that 08-12 range, buy a gas truck. Im sure the 6.7 is a great motor, but it is an expensive truck and an expensive truck to FIX. All these 6.7 guys bought their trucks new with a warranty.

The reasoning would be the fuel mileage would be way better, the scorpion powered trucks are good tow platforms, have good exhaust brakes, and mine has towed serious weight with very few problems. As far as wives, I chose aqn Asian lady nfrom Alabama.........
Can't do a dually. It's to wide to navigate where I need to. No comment on the wife stuff.

I have a 14 6.7 and and want to go back to the simplicity of the v10. I am going to start looking for a cab and chassis v10, I really don't care about mpg, in my case my truck weighs over 11000lbs so fuel economy really isnt a concern.

Sounds like we have identical trucks. I'd often be hauling 7-8,000 no prob, even in the hills. But if starting up a hill the low range helps and you will need the V10 to scream a bit, it surely doesn't have the low end grunt the diesels do but plenty for sub-10k loads.

My '09 was under 35kish when brand new! Should be able to get a nice one for a whole lot less than that now.

[QUOTE=TooHuge;16056094]My .02 cents is to stay away from used, out of warranty, diesels built after 08 for right now.

Never had a diesel, but do you mean "after 08" ie 2009, 2010? Or did you mean built before 2008 ie 2007, 2006?

When you say, if I am lucky enough, are you meaning the V10 is a superior motor to the 6.2L? And in what way? It's stronger? Runs better? Lasts longer?

In my opinion the 3v V10 is superior to the 6.2. Of course others will have their opinions. I liked that the v10 doesn't have to rev over 4000rpm to make power. The v10 can rev that high but it doesn't have to, there is a lot of midrange and low rpm torque. The 6.2 doesn't have the torque down low or in the mid range, its a high revving engine, once its revving above 4500rpm's it is a beast, I just didn't like the torque curve. Drive both and choose which one you like better.

Thank you for the article, but....

As for what is the best year used PS diesel, there is an opinion from a shop near Atlanta that has an interesting take based on their experience: What Year Powerstroke is Best? -- Powerstrokehelp.com

Good luck!
Thank you for the article, but the person writing the piece clearly has a self serving motive. It appears that his conclusion is don't buy a new truck, buy a six year old truck or order, and give him $15,000 to make it "bulletproof".

Lmao I haul 15k pounds with my 250 6.2L and it does just fine. And I don't have to rev it up to 4500 rpms to make power. When towing that much getting on the hwy I barely have to go above 3k rpms to get up to hwy speeds. The trans in the new super duty makes up for the "lack" of lower tq like you v10 people claim.

You can't go wrong with either gas engine. I was looking for an 11-12 F250 with the 6.2 or 06 up with the V10.

In many areas, the V10 engine is pretty rare in pickups. I've been keeping an eye out, and the only ones I can find are in F550 service trucks and motorhomes.
