I'm on my first build also. A 1950 F1 I've got a about a yr into it. My biggest problem is money. I have lots of time but not much money. So it going to take a few yrs.

Gary, I feel your pain. I'm retired, so I work two REALLY part-time jobs to pay for stuff on my truck. Took four months to save up for a carb! haha

Thumbs up yippee!

since this will be a restomod'd truck, i'm focusing first and foremost on drivetrain, custom bed, and interior... leaving the exterior as-is, patina / ratrod for the time being. subsequently, i was very excited today to find a passenger door (mine was missing) that is a very close match!

looking to pull the doghouse and cab over the next few days so i can start to work cleaning up the frame, so that when the time comes, i can figure out mounts for the 351 and E4OD.

progress! even if baby steps!

Gold.... great project and you're gonna have fun !!! but one correction I need to make... A LONG TERM PROJECT is measured in decades. Started mine in 1995 and it might get to the paint booth this year...

have fun..

Hey Goldco
Baby steps are good! Just keep up your momentum .... even doing little
things is good. I like your turn signals - unique location.

Looking good over there in Colorado!

thanks! that's the idea... a little at a time. got the front sheetmetal removed today, and (hopefully) will pull the cab tomorrow so i can start cleaning up the frame.

so those turn signals aren't stock, eh? interesting. i guess the PO liked to customize his stuff, considering that and the holes in the hood peak for some kind of trim.

slow but steady

got the driver's door removed (that stubborn hinge pin was no fun!) and running boards off.

was hoping to pull the cab last night, but my friend who'd i enlisted to help, had to cancel on me... that, and i haven't been able to remove the 2 forward cab mounting bolts -- just spinning in place! grrr. no welder to facilitate easy removal... took a cutoff disc to make a slit in the carriage head to hopefully use a flatblade screwdriver. we'll see how well that works (or doesn't) later, as now we're getting rain forecasted for the rest of the week and project is currently sitting in my backyard.

plan is to pull the cab and then media blast the frame. engine rebuild kit should be here sometime this week (block still at machine shop).

hopefully in ~3 weeks i'll have a clean frame in the garage and the engine (block) on a stand ready to start building!

Exclamation update

knock on wood -- hopefully the snow is *finally* behind us as spring starts to push in here in colorado... i had the truck stashed in the backyard so that we could park both cars in the garage (hate scraping windshields).

looking at the forecast, no time like the present! got the cab removed and the rolling chassis stripped down to minimum. pulled it around to the front today, and rented a tow dolly this evening in order to drive it to denver tomorrow for an appointment at the media blaster.

also got notice today my new pistons came in, so after dropping the chassis at the blaster, i'll be off to the machine shop with the new slugs so the block can be bored and honed.

trying to do a little bit every week, as my goal is to have the truck "running" (but not finished) in time for the 2016 Hot Rod Hill Climb this fall... not to race, but the day before the event they host a "reliability run", which is basically just a fun cruise thru the mountains for any pre-'55 vehicle. some days i think this is a reasonable (though rushed) deadline, other days i think about all that has to be done before this truck is even roadworthy and wonder if i should plan on the 2017 event!

we'll see.
