Throttle body revisions on 6.2L... why?

Hi all

I cleaned my throttle body the other day and while looking at ebay listings I noticed some 6.2 throttle bodies (the -CA rev) appear to have spiral machining inside the bore right before the throttle plate.

I wondered if anyone knew the purpose of this change? Is it an upgrade intended for the Raptor or for all 6.2 engines? Is it supposed to do the same thing as a "throttle body spacer" (i.e. not much)? Or is it intended to improve low airflow and avoid problems with build-up like they had on some earlier car ETBs?

I'm not saying I would change it, I am just always curious at the reasoning behind revisions. I thought maybe Ford notifies techs about changes like these...

I was interested to learn from web videos that these TBs do not use a potentiometer for feedback. That should make them quite durable, since the sensing is non-contact!
