Weird brake problem.

My son has a 95 Ranger. Occasionally his brakes fail where the pedal does not depress at all. Like pushing on a brick and no braking action at all. After a bit the ABS light comes on and then he has brakes but without ABS.

I think he said once it starts working it is fine until he turns it of and restarts it.

Can the ABS module act up in a way to prevent the brake pedal from working?

Have all of the vehicle computer/controllers scanned with a ELM scantool running FORScan & post up the trouble code clue Numbers. The ELM & FORScan can query the ABS controller for trouble code clues.
