anyone running semi super singles on rear?

my friend has a nice F350 7.3 CC LB SRW and needs more weight caring capacity and stability and has been looking for a dually to replace it.

i have seen some SD with wheels that let u run semi tires and wondered if anyone has run such a set up with super singles on the rear and if this would be a good set up for a SD carrying a camper and towing a boat

I have seen them local and ran them on a dually I had. You can run 16ply 19.5" tires on these:http://www.aewheel.com/eagle_alloy_w...d=1947&cat=472
I have seen them used on CL and there are other brands out there. This is what I did when I hauled my camper and towed my bass boat.
Stability will probably be best noticed with a dually....

I think you are around PDX, here is a local set I saw, but maybe a little high on used price:

Tires/wheels do not alter the weight-carrying capacity of the truck.

In the doorjam, Ford lists what the maximum weight for the truck can be [front, rear and overall] and the minimum tire needed to safely carry that weight.

If you get a tire less than the minimum specced by Ford, it will reduce the maximum amount of weight you can safely carry.

If you get a tire more than the minimum specced by Ford, you still cannot legally exceed the values listed in the doorjam.

In my opinion, the OP is not trying to gain towing/carrying capacity by going to the single tire on a DRW. He is asking if anyone has done it and if it's worth doing.

I'd love to see a pic of it by the way!

Super singles would be a poor choice, but they'd certainly have a unique look. They're lighter than a set of conventional 22.5" duals, but much heavier than anything mounted on a Super Duty.

A Michelin xOne tire and wheel is over 230 lbs. Adding that kind of unsprung weight would do some awful things to ride and handling.

The OP did specifically mention "needs more weight caring capacity and stability"...

Getting a F350 dually insteadwould help with stability, but may not necessarily have more weight carrying capacity [again depends on how the numbers in the doorjam compares to the current truck].

SuperSingles might help with stability w.r.t the current truck [I've never used them, so I have no idea], but they won't alter the capacity of the truck [other than possibly decrease it].

I have yet so see anyone running a super single in replacement of a dual, like on some concrete trucks(22.5"). This was mine with 19.5" duals:

thanks for ideas
truck is a 350 SRW and with camper and boat trailer it is a few hundred pounds over stated load capacity and his wife complains that is is a little unstable feeling some times on the road. Owner has been looking for a DRW to replace it with but loves his current truck. doesn't want to do a full DRW conversion so i was thinking running the semi style wheels with super singles on rear and a set of rear air bags might be a possible solution.

also what does limit the GVW of the SD's is it springs, axles and/or?

Depends on the configuration.

The rear axle and brakes are rated for 7,000 lbs, but tires, wheels, and springs may be less. What does your door sticker say for rear GAWR? What year is the truck?
