Angry 1999 ford powerstroke 4x4 not engaging correctly, not manual hubs

I have a 1999 Ford 7.3 powerstroke f-250 super duty. The 4 x 4 system has problems engaging into 4 low or high sometimes it doesent even seem to engage and when it does it doesent seem like it is working properly. It has automatic locking hubs, i have heard they can be a problem. If anyone has any suggestions at all please help. Let me know what to do
Thak you Ken

I take it you have ESOF so make sure you have NO vacuum leaks. Other than that I have no ideas as I have manual hubs.

Ford doesn't make a truly auto only hub. You can always get out and put the hubs in the lock position. The new hubs were designed with a backup manual locking mechanism for this very reason.

I have the same problem with my '02 - they just don't seem to want to lock in. I was thinking maybe they need a couple wheel revolutions before they engage, but that didn't work over the weekend for me, either.

Guess I'm gonna have to take a trip to the dealer again...

I want to get rid of the totally worthless objects Ford put on the front end of my '02. Semi auto is not a term I wish to apply to locking hubs, I want to put the same heavy duty warn ones I have on the '96. How do I go about this? any ideas.

I believe you just go buy some Warn hubs and put them on.
