96 5.8 crew cab surge randomly

Hey folks been driving the crew cab for a while here and aside from the arctic blast showing me a leaking lower hose/ radiator possibility the issue my truck has that drives me batty is a random loss of power stumble surge that only happens randomly. sometimes it does it on the highway for a second then it stops and its fine as long as the truck goes other times it will stumble and sputter for a few miles losing power and falling on its face then surging until it seems to clear out or clear up and its fine. I just went thru a-lot of the issues with a new purchase i did cap, rotor, wires, plugs and made sure to space the wires on each side for the crossfire . the tank it runs off most of the time is the brand new one i put in and the filter is new as well. if i switch to the rear tank it does the same thing. I havent checked codes yet but the light will come on sometimes and sometimes it goes back off. I have a slight leak on the drivers side manifold but that doesnt seem to be anything that would do this , this seems like a fuel or electrical issue . I have searched all over figuring someone has had this but everything i turn up is not my issue. Anyone have any thoughts, i will be pulling codes as soon as its not 20 below out . thanks again for any help its all appreciated!

Well my step father seems to be having the same issue on his truck and it appears I am a bit luckier than you and am not alone, however it appears this thread is dead :'D if I can find anything I'll try to share, or at least link it to the thread.

This is a 1996 5.0 ext with dual tanks, I personally haven't looked far into it to date, just seems so odd. Runs fine for a short amount of time and then it starts slightly stumbling but not missing bad just a loss of power and it seems pedal range makes no difference, now it happens more often but it is at start off and throughout cruising ranges(45-65). Runs ill like then, pops back to normal, accelerates strong and runs smooth...then back over again.
My money is on a sensor of some sort... not sure which or where to start but I got test light an multi meter lol.

Start by checking for codes.
