$8 buck oil change

Got a shock when I took Jeep down to Jiffy lube where I have been going for 5 years...$11 per quart for Penz Synth. Paid $104 buck bill for 6 qt of oil and told them I would never be back. Stopped off at Wal Mart to check on the price of oil as the guy claimed they make no money on the oil, just on the labor. Yep, Wal Mart has same exact oil for $5 per qt.

I am talking to Auto svc mgr and tell him of my rip off by Jiffy lube. He says we don't advertise this, but if you buy the oil and filter here or just bring in your own oil and filter we just charge $8 bucks to change oil and filter only.

I said does that go for F 350 Diesel? YEP, we do them all the time here.

Know where my next oil changes for ALL my cars will be...$8 buck Chuck.

I would not trust the kids at walmart to change oil in my 50k plus truck. Basic job but I've heard of some pretty crappy experiences.

Not a chance in hell Wal-mart technicians are touching anything on my truck, or any of my cars other than the tires and wheels that I bring in off the vehicle.

That's what I did for my 94 Suburban. I don't need somebody hanging on the impact gun until it won't turn and warping my rotors.

Heck..I don't even want my dealer to do oil changes... still use kids alot etc. you never know who's in the bay that day..
Besides...I'll take the $8 or whatever and go by a good meal out after my DIY oil change.. After my fuel filter change I went out for dinner and added desert..

I wouldn't take a diesel Super Duty to a quick lube shop. The wrong oil can cause serious issues, and lots of these shops don't see heavy-duty pickups on a regular basis.

For $8 it's not a bad deal if you bring your own, but I still prefer to do it myself.

Guess I posted this thinking everyone lives in a county were F 350's are common as watches...

I can understand many of you with your hesitation, but I happen to live in ranch country in a small town and our Wal Mart has plenty of practice diesels, especially Fords Super Dutys.

Understood, but each time I go to wal-mart to have the tires changed out I question myself as to why I don't just buy the equipment and do it myself. The "techs" there are normally underpaid, in a rush and just don't give a crap.

Up to you where you take your truck, but you will never see me at one of those places doing anything buy buying the oil.

If I have to take it in to the dealer or wall mart or wherever else I watch them like a hawk. I'm not shy if they start doing something wrong. Had bad experience at the dealer when the 6.7 first came out and the diesel master tech had to fix it. They owed up to it and made it right, but its still a hassle IMHO. So until I can't do maintenance myself it is less hassle for me to DIY... Winter in Alaska without a heated garage makes one not want to DIY though...

That eight bucks will pay for the beer while I'm doing the oil change. Well, at least part of it. Lol

Last time that used Jiffy Lube for my wife's car, the guy came into the customer waiting room with my Air Cleaner Element, and suggested that I buy a replacement from them. I declined, and on the way home I heard a rattle that wasn't there before. When I got home I opened the hood and found all of the screws that secure the Air Box lying on top of it. Thankfully all 4 screws were there. I have been using the same dealership to service my Diesel Trucks for the past 10yrs, and never had a problem.

So you guys just confirmed the stories I have heard of everything from Jiffy Lube to the dealerships. I can do the oil change on my '15 6.7 but I don't want to void the warranty. Is this the case if I do it myself, even if I keep the receipts?
