226 Fuel pump Rebuild????

Does anyone make a kit to rebuild the fuel pump on my 48 226-6? Some vendors show kits for V8's, but I haven't seen a diaphram kit for the 226 yet. Some vendors have kits and pumps that are "double action", I still have the tank in the cab on my truck, so I assume that the O.E. pump is single action with the tank higher than the pump, is it? Thanks. Roy

Roy, I think the double action pumps are referring to the style that pump fuel and also provide a vacuum port for accessories such as wipers.
I could be wrong.

I also am curious if the pump rebuild kits will stand up to today's ethanol content.
I'm looking for a new pump for my 226 right now and would like to hear from others on that topic if possible.

I didn't think about the ethanol gas harming the pump. When I first started my truck I ran it off of a tank of boat gas with oil in it. We use ethanol free gas in all the boats. When I got the tank installed in the 48 I put a couple of gallons of gas from a can we use for the lawnmower and didn't think about whether or not it has ethanol in it.

I have the 226 and am running a new pump that I picked up at cg ford. It seems to run fine on standard gas.

I think you can buy kits from classic preservation coalition but I am not sure if he has them for the 226. Would be good to know if he did. I have a NOS pump still in the box but I only run pure gas when it's convenient to get it so I don't think the diaphram would last long.

I bought a new pump from Mac's a couple of years ago but I haven't started the engine yet with the new pump so I can't comment on performance. It seemed to match up fairly well with the one I took off and I didn't have any problems installing it.

When I was looking to update my fuel pump a couple of years ago, there was a rebuild kit - I don't recall the source, sorry - but the kit cost was nearly the same as buying new. The replacement was from LMC has has been flawless in performance.

Their 226 rebuild kit costs $10 more than the new pump I got from Mac's.

That's not a bad price from Macs. Ethanol compatible to boot.

New Airtex pump is available (592) for the 226 at Rockauto. I have one on mine and it seems to work just fine. And, it's under $35.00.

Are you sure about that? I just checked RockAuto for the 226 and they don't have a fuel pump. They list one for the V8s but not for the 6.

I just checked Rockauto and they had a listing for a fuel pump for my 48 226. $34.89 plus shipping for an Airtex pump. What year did you check for?

That's the one. I bought two of them a year or so ago and it works fine on my 1950 F2 226. It's Airtex number is 592. Joe must be looking in the wrong spot. I just checked for a 1950 226 F1 and it is there.
