I noticed something new this morning on the way to work, and as far as I know, this may have been going on for a long time. First of all, my third brake light, the one I replaced about 2 weeks ago, is out again! I was backed up to the garage, and could tell from the rear view mirror that it wasn't reflecting off the white garage door like the rear brake lights were, so I turned around to look out the back glass, and sure enough, no third brake light. That's when I noticed the new "chin scratching" occurrence. The interior courtesy light, when I mash the brake pedal, comes on real dim. If I had to put it on a scale of 1-100%, I'd say it illuminates about 5%. You'd never know it unless you were looking right at it. Now, will one of you electrical circuit "gurus" please give me your idea as to what in the world is causing that. I won't get a chance to dig into it for several days, but would sure appreciate someone pointing me in a direction. I have to wonder if it's related to the third brake light dying so soon, and possibly even related to the whole cruise control issue I've been experiencing.

Take a look at the ground for the 3rd brake light. It sounds like that light is back feeding the ground to the dome light, trying to complete the brake light circuit by using the dome light ground.

Fwiw, when my 3rd brake light went out, my cruise would work but quit when I used the blinker.

I did find a minor wiring issue that was easily corrected. Third brake light now works, but I still have a "jerky" cruise control.
