Steering Stabilizer

I am looking for a steering stabilizer for my Excursion. Something that would reduce the twitchy wandering pig feel as is common with all Ford trucks with the twinn I-beam mess. Something that would reduce bump steer would be great.

I just installed a Bilstein Steering Damper. It was replacing the stock from 2004. After the install I don't feel the steering wheel rock back and forth when going over train tracks.

Bump steer is the result of changes in the geometry as your suspension cycles.

If your vehicle is stock then I doubt you are going to find much room for improvement in the geometry with common off the shelf parts. If it is lifted there are parts to correct the geometry depending on how much lift you have.

Been awhile since I have driven a twin I beam truck but have built many ford twin beam suspensions over the years and that twitchy feeling is usually caused by a combination of things. Some of the culprits are Tread pattern, air pressure, front to rear ride height differences , and or anything that is worn or bent in the steering system including the steering box and pump, Hopefully a new dampener cures your woes.

I'm thinking I need the same. Rides good on decent roads, but pot holes etc....

What do you think of the RAS system you installed?

Pretty much,
In the case of the factory installed stablizer it would be fair to call it a band aid masking a compromise.

They are 3x the money but they are fine. I doubt you could tell the difference between any of the 4 in a blind driving test on the same vehicle.

I just replaced mine and went with a NAPA brand. The one I replaced was leaking. The old one had more resistance than the new one. Not happy with it. Trying to find a fix for a vibration at 65-80 mph speed. Anyway it didnt do a thing for the shaking and wouldn't recommend that one. I was looking at the Rancho 7000 but was impatient and got that one.

that vibration is likely your tires, try swapping the front ones and see if that helps.

Tried that with two different sets of wheels. Different tires balanced twice got something else going on not sure what it is yet. Was hoping Steering stabilizer would help but knew it was a long shot.
